Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles
Some of the pieces wind up being totally blank, which adds to the challenge of assembling them. The number of pieces tops out at 350 or so, but none of them are particularly easy. I like the fact that you can attack the puzzle using different approaches: sometimes you can work the edges, or maybe you just want to find what goes around the whimsy pieces, or connect all the words, or use geography, or follow the roads. All techniques help.
The state puzzles started with California and San Diego county, but I seem to keep adding states. One of the challenging parts of adding a state is knowing what whimsy pieces are appropriate for a state that I don't know very well. Montana, Wyoming, and Texas all came from someone contacting me and requesting the state and then being willing to help me design the puzzle. I think all three of those came out really well because of it. Let me know if you want your state.
The California Jigsaw Puzzle
A wooden jigsaw puzzle of the state of California. The puzzle is comprised of 160 pieces and includes 12 geographically-themed whimsy pieces, including pieces for Sequoia National Park, Yosemite Valley, Joshua Tree National Park, Hollywood, Sutter's Mill, Death Valley, and more. The puzzle is laser-cut from 1/8-inch maple plywood, which provides a great feel for each piece as well as a superior fit. Even though it's only 160 pieces, the difficulty level is actually fairly high. Expect to spend multiple hours assembling it. Approximately 12 x 16 inches in size.

Optional Roads: a new version of this puzzle includes some of the major transportation corridors around San Diego County. They probably make the puzzle a little bit easier to assemble.
